Statewide Bible reading planned

Dear editor: The 4th annual Statewide Bible Reading Marathon will be Thursday, July 14. In previous years, this has been an early morning service, but this year the Bible reading will take place at 7:14 p.m.

Bible reading marathon to share the word of God

Jones County is participating in the fourth annual statewide Bible reading marathon on July 14 at 7:14 p.m. on the Jones County Courthouse lawn, reciting the Word of God to the community. Debra Hall, coordinator for the Jones County reading, said she’s very excited for the reading.

Bond denied for alleged marijuana grower

A Jones County man was in Jones County Superior Court seeking a bond less than two days after his arrest. Thomas Joshua Smith was arrested June 28 for the manufacture of marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute.

The second quarterly meeting of 2022 for the Jones County Board of Health included updates of the COVID statistics for the county and the upcoming renovation of the building housing the agency. The June 22 meeting was called to order by the board’s new chairman, Ed Barbee.

Signs stolen from biking event; suspect arrested

The theft of signs for a bike racing event resulted in the arrest of a Hillsboro man for the theft and reckless conduct. Jonathan Lee Hall was arrested June 26 on the charges, following an investigation of the theft that was reported by volunteers with the Chainbuster racing association.

Robert Glenn Smith is the local Veteran of the Week. He joined the Army (drafted) in August 1958 and received basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. After basic, he trained at the medical school at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, then was assigned to Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benning.
