District 3 takes trophy for cleanup

Jones County’s April 23 Community Pride Cleanup crowned Commissioner Wendy Vaughn and District 3 as the winners of the contest, but the community was the ultimate winner. A total of 475 bags of trash, two trailer loads of electronics and 1,100 tires were taken off the streets.

‘Matilda Jr.’ to be presented this weekend

This spring Jones County Arts community theater group presents “Matilda Jr.” The story is based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book “Matilda”. Matilda Wormwood, played by Ava Gale, is an extraordinary little girl with a vivid imagination, sharp mind, and special powers. Mr. Wormwood and Mrs.

Man found not guilty at trial for role in drug bust

A Jones County jury found the defendant in last week’s trial not guilty on all counts. The trial for Jeremy Ross Gunnells began at 9 a.m., April 20, and concluded at noon the following day. Jurors were allowed to go to lunch and started their deliberation 1:35 p.m.

911 dedication

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center was dedicated last week to the woman whose vision made it possible. The family of JCSO former Chief Deputy Barbara Burnette joined officers and staff members of the JCSO in dedicating the center April 21.

War Days kick off Saturday

Cannons and muskets will ring out in Clinton again this weekend, looking back to the days surrounding the Civil War. War Days will take place in Clinton April 30 and May 1. Gates will open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Commissioners adopt updated ordinances to reduce blight

The Jones County Board of Commissioners adopted the county’s updated solid waste ordinance that contains many of the changes brought about because of the work of blight committee members. The April 19 meeting was called to order at 6 p.m.
