The winter sports calendar will shift into high gear on the wrestling mat this week when Jones County hosts a middle school takedown tournament.
JCHS head coach Adam Gillhouse says that several teams from middle Georgia are expected, and unlike other tournaments, teams won’t be limited to one wrestler per weight class.
That’s because the chief goal of this weekend is about giving wrestlers experience, whether they may be newer to the sport or not.
“The goal is to get as many kids wrestling as we can,” Gillhouse said. “It’s a great way for new guys to get their feet wet and for others to come back and ease into things.”
Wrestling begins on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
