Thompson pitches four-hitter in win for Brevard
JCHS product Jacob Thompson helped Brevard College get back on track over the weekend, getting the win in Saturday’s 6-4 win against Mary Baldwin. The victory was part of a three-game sweep for Brevard, which has two conference series to go prior to the conference tournament.
Thompson pitched five innings in the win, giving up a run on four hits, striking out three. The Tornadoes will take their 10-5 conference record to William Peace for a three-game series this weekend.
Hamm speeds to fast times in Indoor, Outdoor Events
2016 JCHS graduate Shareez Hamm helped Academy of Art University to a fourthplace finish overall at last month’s NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, the second-best finish in program history. Hamm was also part of the 4x400 relay team that placed second, posting a program record time of 3:09.72.
Hamm and his 4x400 relay mates kept up the speed outdoors last weekend, winning with a time of 3:05.20 at the Mt. SAC Relays, breaking a program record that had stood since 2014. Hamm also ran a 51.82 in the 400-meter hurdles, which made him a provisional qualifier for the Outdoor Nationals.
