When what amounts to summer all-star tournament season began in late May and into early June, places such as Dudley, Warner Robins and West Macon-Bibb’s Western Little League rolled out the red carpet to welcome teams from across Middle Georgia to their communities for district and other all-star events.
Last week, Jones County got its turn to play the role of host, staging district tournaments for softball in the 8-10 and 9-11 age divisions in addition to senior softball also being scheduled.
Jones County’s 9-11 softball all-stars split their first two games, winning an opener 2-1 against Warner Robins American prior to being pushed to the bracket’s tiebreaker game between the two teams.
The hosting of last week’s tourney was an effort driven by local volunteers of whom staffed the tournament to help it run smoothly, ranging from handling admission, concessions and other needs.
In other recent all-star results, Jones County’s 8U all-stars finished second in the state.
