A drive back from a postseason game in the southeast part of Georgia can feel long, winding and dark. But the journey back to Gray late Friday through those small towns in South Georgia toward the midstate was a jubilant one for Jones County.

Hounds split two leading into region play

The Greyhounds began region play this past Tuesday at Union Grove with a bit of wind at their back after splitting a pair of games last week. And as gratifying as that span that included an 18-3 rout of Howard last Tuesday was, Jones County also came away from the week seeing a missed opportunity.

Growth continues for Hounds entering region slate

Amid a transition, the Greyhounds remain upbeat going into Friday’s region opener. There have been gains so far for Jones County, 1-3-1 so far. That comes in the wake of a pair of stern tests against postseason regulars last week, GMC Prep and Mary Persons in losses of 7-0 and 9-0.

The Lady Greyhounds began this week with a steady build-up of momentum. Despite a loss to a Mary Persons program that regularly makes its way into the postseason, JCHS sees plenty to hang its hat on.

CRMS notches a pair of shutout wins

Clifton Ridge Middle picked up two more wins last week via shutout, beating Jasper County 14-0 and Lamar County 13-0. The Cougars play Gray Station on Thursday at JCHS and host Henderson Middle on March 5.

The Lady Greyhounds are headed to the state quarterfinals, and they’ll have home-court advantage with a trip to the final four at stake next week. Jones County beat Ware County 34-32 Friday.
