The region’s cross country supremacy still belongs to Jones County. The course may have been different, but the results were the same as a year ago – a clean sweep of the region cross country titles for the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds, this time coming on Locust Grove’s home course.

Bulldogs set to face Florida in Jacksonville

Coming off a bye week, No. 1 Georgia (7-0, 4-0 SEC) is set to face Florida this Saturday in Jacksonville. The Gators (5-2, 3-1) struggled earlier this season, but are on a two-game winning streak, with their most recent victory a come-from-behind 41-39 win over South Carolina two weeks ago.

Jontavis Robertson was one of seven Blue Devils to be targeted with a pass in Saturday night’s 38-20 loss at Florida State. Duke led 20-17 at halftime before the Seminoles rallied to remain unbeaten. Duke plays Saturday at Louisville.

Jones County Youth Football crowned its champions for the season on Saturday morning with title games being held in five different divisions in the annual Super Bowl event held at Greyhound Field. The inaugural season of girls flag football saw Purple win in overtime.

The calendar officially turned to a key date on Monday for winter sports at Jones County High School. After an offseason of voluntary workouts, Oct. 23 was the first official day that the sports of basketball and wrestling were permitted to officially practice. All three took advantage.

The region cross country championships will remain in Jones County. The Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds repeated as region champions on Saturday morning, getting the best of the competition at the region meet in Locust Grove. JCHS swept both of Saturday's JV races as well.

Great things happened for the Greyhounds on Friday when the ball got into the hands of Tyler Stewart against Dutchtown. The result was not only a 35-28 win over the Bulldogs but also set up what will amount to a region championship on Oct. 27 at Warner Robins following this week’s open date.
