Lady Hounds season underway

The official start of the Lady Greyhounds softball season was pushed back by at least one day, with weather on Monday pushing a matchup against Houston County to Tuesday. The postponed contest began a two-game sprint of non-region games with Thursday calling for the home opener against Dodge County.

Former Jones County wrestling standout Nate Carr Jr. has another name to go by: head coach at Davidson College. Carr was announced as the head coach of the Wildcats, a Division I program, on Friday as the 13th head coach in program history.

Tickets for Northside game on sale Tickets for Jones County’s season opener on Aug. 20 against Northside in the Macon Touchdown Club Kickoff Classic at Mercer University are now on sale and may be purchased from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the front office. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate.

The new home to land dink balls, double hits and drop ball volleys is now complete in Jones County following the renovation of the pickleball courts at the Morris Bank Recreation Complex.

Greyhounds forge ahead to practicing in full pads

School started this week for students in Jones County, and so did football practice, officially. The Greyhounds did just that, taking the field early Monday morning. Following last week’s acclimation period, teams were green-lighted to practice in full pads per the GHSA rules on Monday.
