Competition cheerleading season is off and rolling for both the middle school and high school Cheer Hounds following Saturday’s first meet of the season at Morgan County. The varsity squad claimed second-place honors with the middle schoolers taking third.

Gray Station Middle School took the field last Wednesday, playing host to Jasper County. The Greyhounds fell 14-8 and take on Clifton Ridge next Wednesday at Greyhound Field. CRMS beat Lamar County last week 18-6.

Saturday’s OrthoWest Invitational carried its own degree of prestige, attracting some of the state’s top cross country teams. But of the races held there during the season, it’s not the biggest one. That event, by the way, is the GHSA state championship meet the weekend of Nov. 7-8.
