Haddock Christian Church Dedication Service Please join Haddock Christian Church 117 N. Oak St. Haddock, GA (formerly Haddock Methodist Church) in celebration and dedication of our church to God our Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and His Holy Spirit. Worship service is 11am – 12pm Jan. 29, 2023.

PARKS & RECREATION

Track & Field sign ups ongoing, parent meeting on Jan. 28 Sign ups are underway for Jones County youth track and field for ages 7-14. The registration cost is $100 per child and $90 per additional child. The parent meeting is Jan. 28 at the Knox Civic Center, which is mandatory.

Terry Campbell is the local veteran of the week. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from October of 1965 until October of 1967. He was a pay specialist with a rank of SP/4. During his high school years at Lanier in Macon, he was in the ROTC program. Do you know a veteran we can feature?

Robert Buckey is the local veteran of the week. He is a U.S. Air Force retired colonel and spent 30 years as a fighter pilot, with over 4,000 hours of flying time in fighters. He is a veteran of the Cuban crisis, the Korean Publa crisis, and flew 142 combat missions during the Vietnam War.

Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Marty Brownlee is the local veteran of the week. He served in the U.S. Army from 1996 - 2000 and 2006 - 2015 before retiring. Sergeant Brownlee served in Afghanistan, for which he was award a Purple Heart after being injured by a suicide bomber.

Ocmulgee CASA Volunteer Training Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will hold a new volunteer training class beginning January 18, from 1-4 pm at Lakeview Academy in Milledgeville. The 9 required training sessions will be held every Monday and Wednesday through February 15.

Otis Broaddrick is the local veteran of the week. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954, serving as a boatswain’s mate aboard the USS Philippine Sea (CV-47), in Korea.

Turner Woods hosts annual Christmas celebration

Turner Woods Elementary School held their annual Christmas celebration on Dec. 15, rewarding the students for their good behavior with a little holiday spirit. Jeffrey Tharpe, principal of Turner Woods Elementary School, said the students look forward to the celebration each year.
