After much consideration, I believe that an annual article about pruning crape myrtles is in order. Generally speaking, pruning is a great tool to utilize to promote growth, prevent disease, and maintain a better aesthetic look. Pruning will encourage your plant to grow, flower, or fruit.

Car thief arrested after alert from camera

A Flock camera alert resulted in the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen vehicle last week. Wilber Franklin Walton Jr., 54, was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property.

Library celebrates love and Black history

The Jones County Library has lots going on for the month of February filled with love, knowledge and books. Julie King, the branch manager of the Jones County Library, said she’s excited for the month and all they have planned at the library.

Defendant pleads guilty for shooting

A defendant arrested in connection with a November shooting in a Jones County neighborhood received a 10-year sentence last week after entering a guilty plea. Jesus Antonio Oberle, 23, was in Jones County Superior Court Jan. 29 to enter his plea to the charge of aggravated assault.

Oconee Ranger District hosts annual forestry meeting
