City council considers lighting, safety needs

Probationer going to prison for felony shoplifting

A defendant well known by law enforcement officers in Jones County and the City of Gray was revoked to prison due to the violation of his probation. Willie Earl Sanders Jr. was revoked to serve two years in prison Jan. 25 due to new charges that were a violation of his probation.

Kiwanis Club donates to Jay’s Hope

The Kiwanis Club of Jones County donated $750 to Jay’s Hope Foundation to support the outstanding work done by Jay’s Hope, helping families who have a child battling cancer. Charles Newberry, Kiwanis President, right, presented a check to Cindy Gaskins, founder and director of Jay’s Hope.

Defendant deemed incompetent in murder case

A defendant in a 2021 Jones County murder case was deemed incompetent following a competency hearing in Superior Court last week, in effect resolving the case with a life sentence of a different type. Sharon Strawder Wood was arrested Nov. 20, 2021, for the murder of Lamar Brinson Price.
