Meetings for Jones County’s Board of Tax Assessors are very different these days with drama and crowded meetings rooms seeming to be a thing of the past.The March 5 meeting was called to order by Chairman Dr. Leigh Stanford, and board member Joe Rutledge led the opening prayer and pledge.

Leaders step into new roles at sheriff’s office

The retirement of two high-ranking officers at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office was the catalyst for a refocus on department leadership and training.Capt. Kenny Allen, who headed criminal investigations, and investigator Lt. Gerry Nelson both retired in December with 25 years of service.

On March 28, at 10am, we will have the 3rd “Walk With The Cross” event. We will walk from the gazebo at Carol’s Park down the sidewalk to in front of Ingles. There Pastor Randy Darnell will speak a short devotional, after which we will walk back to Carol’s Park. It’s a silent walk. No talking.
