A combined five runs in the first and third innings were enough for Clifton Ridge last Tuesday as the Cougars held on to edge Gray Station 5-4 in an earlyseason game between the two teams at Cecil Patterson Field.

Ridgeway, Stanley lead basketball all-region selections

The Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds were both represented on the GHSA Region 2-AAAAA all-region teams, which were released at the conclusion of last week’s region tournament. The Lady Greyhounds’ Amaris Ridgeway was a first-team selection with Carlie Skinner being named to the second team.

Greyhounds qualify nine for state tournament

The GHSA state traditional wrestling tournament rolls off Thursday at the Macon Coliseum with the three days of wrestling wrapping up individual champions being crowned on Saturday. Within the event’s AAAAA classification, it won’t be hard to find the purple and gold of Jones County.

Hounds score most goals in game since 2019 for first win

If the first few matches of a soccer season are for finding out who can score goals, then the Greyhounds learned a great deal in last Friday’s home opener against Central Macon. Led by a soccer version of the hat trick by Brendan Waters, Jones County easily topped the visiting Chargers 9-2.

The Lady Greyhounds are one win away from a region title. Jones County took down Warner Robins 68-45 in the Region 2-AAAAA tournament Thursday night at Dutchtown to advance to Friday’s girls tournament championship game against top-ranked and no. 1 seed Union Grove. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Lady Hounds laser-focused heading into postseason

Last week had absolutely no bearing on the region tournament for the Lady Greyhounds. Win or lose against Ola and Dutchtown, Jones County’s seed for the region tourney, which began Tuesday at Dutchtown, was already set.

Clark takes big step toward state, Gym Hounds open with win

The Gym Hounds began their season with a nice start on Saturday at Elite Gymnastics. Not only did Jones County finish first among the schools in its size grouping, but another gymnast also took a major step toward qualifying for the state meet.

Hounds rally past Union Grove in OT, advance to state tourney again

Ask most boys basketball coaches in the Greyhounds’ region, and they’ll likely assert that Region 2-AAAAA is among the state’s toughest. If a team can be among those advancing to the state tournament, it has a chance to make some noise.
