Tennis teams conclude season in state tourney

The Jones County tennis season came to end with both teams being in the state tournament last week. The Lady Greyhounds had a tough draw in their opening round match at Starr’s Mill, losing 3-0.

Chancey, Lady Hounds qualify for state

Both as individuals and as a team, Jones County’s golf team has qualified for the state tournament.

Spots still available for Day/Night Fundraiser

Spots to compete are still available for the Jones County golf program’s annual Greyhound Day/Night Scramble on May 1 at Lake JonesCo Golf Course. The event is a two-man scramble format with a cost of $50 per person that includes golf, dinner, a glow ball, prizes and range balls.

The athletics department of Jones County High School will be under new leadership by the time that the 2022-23 school year begins.

Hounds hopes for home-field advantage in playoffs at stake

With two games against Stockbridge last week, the path ahead was clear, but the Greyhounds had to take advantage. With two wins, Jones County would enter the final week of the regular season in a position to finish second in the region and host a first-round series in the state playoffs.

GSMS captures region title

Gray Station Middle School baseball coach Rico Gibson admits that his team had a desire to finish things out stronger as this season began. That was well taken care on last Thursday at Highway 18 Ballpark. With a dominant 7-1 win against Ace Charter, GSMS won their region title.

Sullivan shatters record; Ragins and Bond sweep 1-2 spots

Spring break ended last week for the Jones County track teams, as did the time away from official competition. But both teams emerged from spring break in a big way, with Austin Sullivan shattering a seven-year-old school record on Saturday at the BSN Eagles Landing Invitational.

Hounds Distance Company making statewide splash

Thanks to outstanding individual efforts and the fact that middle school runners can compete in JV high school events, some future Greyhounds have been making huge names for themselves state-wide.

Tennis teams advance to state

Both JCHS tennis teams headed north last week to the region tournament. The result? Showings for both that qualified them for the state tournament. The Greyhounds placed second with the Lady Hounds third, good to earn state tourney berths.
