Cheer Hounds kick off busy schedule with second-place finish

For more than 25 years, the Middle Georgia Cheer Invitational has hosted cheer squads from various parts of Georgia. Jones County was part of a full day of competition cheerleading on Saturday, picking up a finish of second place as a busy span of their season begins.

Senior night sparks three-match win streak

A senior night win against Rutland kicked last week off for the Volley Hounds. Jones County’s momentum didn’t stop there as it went on to take a sweep of ACE and Crisp County on Thursday, running its winning streak to three entering the resumption of region play this week.

Gray Station Middle School had no problem with Jasper County on Wednesday, rolling all over the visitors from Monticello in a 40-14 win. Both GSMS and Clifton Ridge wrapped up the regular season this past Wednesday against one another in advance of the start of conference postseason play next week.

Dawgs win thriller over TennesseeKNOXVILLE — The top 15 matchup between Georgia and Tennessee turned into an instant classic on Sept. 13.The No. 6 Bulldogs defeated the No. 15 Vols 44-41 in overtime in a game that fans of each team won’t forget.
Jones County safety Andre Hall was recognized by the Macon Touchdown Club as its Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in Friday’s 42-3 win over Union Grove. In addition to multiple tackles, Hall also had a blocked punt in the first quarter. Hall was recognized during Monday night’s Macon Touchdown Club meeting. CONTRIBUTED

Versatile Rickman leads Volley Hounds in region, non-region matches ahead of home stretch

The push to pick up wins in region play and also fine-tune elements of their game continued for the Volley Hounds last week in a pair of road matches. Jones County fell 25-21 in both games to Woodland in addition to dropping 25-17 and 25-15 decisions against Ola.

Jones County’s middle school cross country runners didn’t waver against some of the best runners in central Georgia last week at the Hornet Hustle Invitational. The girls narrowly finished second while the boys edged Monroe County in a meet contested at Middle Georgia State’s course.
