Third-quarter defense keys Lady Hounds’ opening-night win

When it came to last Tuesday’s season opener for the Lady Greyhounds, a defensive third quarter turned the tide in Jones County’s favor in a 60-50 win over Putnam County.Thanks in part to a slow offensive start, JCHS trailed 27-23 at halftime. All of that changed after the break, however.

In more ways than one, the Greyhounds came home from Saturday’s McIntosh Invitational with first place.Not only did Jones County win first place out of 22 teams, but four wrestlers won first place in their respective divisions with two others taking second.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck silenced many of his doubters against Tennessee in a 31-17 win at home in Athens.Beck had thrown 12 interceptions in the six previous games entering Saturday but performed well versus the No. 7 Vols.
