Youth-laden tennis teams swept by Ace

Having graduated a sizeable group of seniors last season, new faces are stepping into larger roles this season for the Greyhounds and the Lady Greyhounds tennis teams. Both fell 4-1 last Wednesday to Ace Charter in a match held at Macon’s John Drew Smith Tennis Center.

Howard Picks Up Win For Lady Dogs

Destin Howard picked up a win for the Lady Bulldogs during Saturday’s Red & Black Showcase, a 9-7 victory for Georgia. Howard pitched an inning and a third in relief, holding St. Johns without a run and one hit in that span.
The Middle School Gym Hounds took home first place as part of Saturday’s Golden Hawk Invitational held at Elite Gymnastics in Milledgeville. Addie Milner led the Middle School Gym Hounds, placing second on the vault and third on both the beam and all around. The next middle school meet is March 18 at approximately noon following the varsity and JV competition in the Greyhound Invitational at Elite Gymnastics. CONTRIBUTED

For all accounts, games before region play amount to preseason in many sports. Baseball is hardly an exception for the Greyhounds, who will begin region play Feb. 27 at Union Grove.

Jones County’s distance runners set high marks last fall during the crosscountry season. They carried that over to track and field season at Saturday’s Union Grove Early Bird All-Comers Invitational. Lilly Palmer ran to a first-place finish in the girls 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:27.

The Gym Hounds took to the arena of competition for the first time on Saturday, battling teams from as north as Oconee County and as far south as Camden County to post top finishes in varsity and JV competition at the Golden Hawk Invitational held at Elite Gym USA in Milledgeville.
