Georgia preps for Florida freshman Lagway

The annual Georgia-Florida rivalry will be renewed this Saturday in Jacksonville at Everbank Stadium. The No. 2 Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1 SEC) will face the Gators (4-3, 2-2), led by talented freshman quarterback DJ Lagway after starter Graham Mertz suffered a season-ending injury a few weeks ago.

COVINGTON – Typically in the best-of-three format currently used in the GHSA softball postseason, teams have a hard time coming back from an early loss. Case in point? In last week’s opening round, all but one Class AAAA series ended in a 2-0 series sweep.

There’s a bit of duality for the Greyhounds coming away from their second open date of the season and looking to the final two games of the regular season. The first of those is on Friday when JCHS closes out the home slate of the regular season on senior night against Eagles Landing.

The original plan for Jones County’s lead up to the GHSA state sectionals on their home course Nov. 2 was to get rest coming off of fall break and head to Bleckley County next weekend.

John Alan Richter won his first career start on Saturday, leading Toledo past Northern Illinois 13-6. He was 15-of-28 for 152 yards and a touchdown and no interceptions for the Rockets, who improved to 5-2 overall.

The offseason officially ended for winter sports at Jones County High School on Monday. With Oct. 21 being the first day of full practices permitted by the GHSA, both basketball teams as well as wrestling took full advantage in holding official practice sessions.
