The Lady Greyhounds are now more than halfway there through the region title race. And their hopes to repeat as region champions are a lot more than living on a prayer.After a 93-21 road flummoxing of McDonough on Saturday, Jones County is 12-4 overall and 9-1 in the region.

The turning of the calendar to 2026 saw play continuing at the Government Center Gymnasium last week for Jones County Parks & Recreation’s youth basketball leagues.Competition last week included the boys instructional league, which hosted three games on Friday night.

Hounds aim to peak at right time entering region duals

Placed on a shelf in the Greyhounds’ wrestling room are a collection of trophies with one common thread. All of them have been earned as a team through the past four years, but all of them are of the region runner-up variety.

RECREATION UPDATE

Baseball and softball registration is underway for both the Highway 18 and Highway 49 complexes.Jones County Little League registration for the 2026 season at Highway 18 ballpark is now open online and extends through Jan. 31. In-person registration will take place at the Knox Civic Center on Jan.

The Lady Greyhounds have enjoyed the luxury of all but one of their region games being at home so far this season. And for the most part, Jones County has taken full advantage of the opportunity.

Greyhounds thankful for time to rest, heal

When the Greyhounds play Friday night in Augusta against Josey, it’ll be their first game in 13 days. It’s a layoff that Jones County, which is 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the region, has no issue with.

Greyhounds making final tweaks before region duals

For the most part, the time for fine-tuning and tweaking is almost complete for the Greyhounds on the wrestling mat.Since falling short of advancing to last year’s GHSA state wrestling duals, redemption has been on Jones County’s mind. The time to cash in those payoff chips is almost here.
